Hakushu
Nearly half a century after the creation of the Yamazaki distillery, it is the turn of Keizo Saji son and heir worthy of Shinjiro Torii’s expertise, to choose a new site to implement the second Suntory’s distillery. It’s at the foot of Kaikomagatake Mount up to 700 meters (making it one of the highest distilleries in the world), in the heart of the Japanese Southern Alps near the Ojira’s river (one of the purest of Japan) that Hakushu was built in 1973. The lush forests surrounding the site are home to more than 6,000 plant species, and the mountainous region enjoys a micro-climate both soft and moist. From her nestled in lush vegetation, Hakushu produces whiskies with tonic flavors and surprising with their character “fresh and green.”
